Two people have been killed in three hours as BNP-allied leaders and activists in Bogura engage in a bloody power struggle in Bogura Sadar after the fall of the Awami League government.
Saihan Waliullah, chief of the Sadar Police Station, said Bogura Sadar Shechhashebok Dal convener Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 37, was hacked to death in the Upazila’s Gokul area around 9pm on Monday.
On the way to the hospital, Mizan’s supporters saw Ledu Mia, 35 - a member of the opposing faction - and attacked him.
Mizanur was then rushed to Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead, said Miladunnabi, in charge of Chhilimpur Medical Police Outpost.
Police rescued Ledu Mia and took him to the same hospital.
Mizan’s followers attacked Ledu at the emergency department of the hospital for a second time. Ledu passed away around midnight under hospital care.
Locals said that Mizan was the son of Afsar Ali Sakidar in Gokul. He had a long-standing feud with Bipul, an expelled Jubo Dal president from Gokul union. Ledu was a follower of Bipul.
Witnesses say that Mizanur was at his personal office in front of the Gokul union council during a power blackout when a group of armed people suddenly burst into the office and hacked at him with a machete before fleeing.

Bogura Shechhashebok Dal Secretary Abu Hasan called Mizan the ‘lifeline’ of his organisation.
“Everyone knew about his conflict with expelled Jubo Dal leader Bipul. Mizan has been killed over that feud. A man called Ledu has also died in a clash between the two sides.”
Sadar Police Station OC Waliullah said those involved in both killings will be identified and arrested.
