A Mymensingh court has sent the father and stepmother of a four-year-old child to jail for allegedly strangling the boy to death in the district’s Trishal Upazila.
The court passed the order on Thursday morning, said Trishal Police chief Firoz Hossain.
The victim was identified by a single name as Labib.
His father Shohagh Miah and stepmother Zakia Aktar, both aged 28, were arrested in Gafargaon Upazila around 3am on Wednesday, said the police officer.
“In the primary interrogation, the father confessed to killing his son according to a pre-meditated plan,” Firoz said.
Labib's mother Lamia Akter, the second wife of Shohagh, was living in her father's house at the Rayer Graam village in Trishal due to a family dispute, according to police.
On Wednesday, Shohag went there and took Labib to his house in the Upazila, promising to return him to his mother.
However, Labib was later found dead near his maternal grandfather's house. Shohagh then absconded.
After finding the body, locals immediately reported it to police, who later recovered it.
Lamia filed a murder case, leading to the joint arrests of Shohagh and Zakia.
