The body of a 4-month pregnant housewife has been found in a sack in a pond in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur Upazila six days after she went missing.
The body was found around 8pm on Sunday in the pond next to her family’s house in Latifpur village and recovered, said Mostafa Kamal, chief of Muksudpur Police Station.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Iti Begum, who hailed from Jamalpur’s Sharishabari Upazila.
Three years ago, Iti married Rashel Sheikh of Latifpur.
Police say Rasel and his family are absconding since the body was found.
Locals say that Iti and Rasel had marital troubles and would argue regularly. Then, on No 24, Iti went missing from home.

Three days later – on Nov 27 – Rashel filed a general diary at the local police station. Iti’s body was then found in a sack in the pond on Sunday.
OC Mostafa said, “Police recovered the body of housewife Iti from a sack after locals reported it. Her arms, legs, and mouth were bound with cloth. Initially, we believe this to be a pre-meditated murder.”
“We have learnt the housewife was four months pregnant. Before the body was recovered, her husband and family locked up their house and fled. An operation is underway to arrest them.”
The body was sent to the Gopalganj General Hospital on Monday for a post-mortem, the police official said.
