Dhaka North City Corporation has claimed to have removed all the waste from cattle slaughtering on Eid-ul-Azha within the six-hour target.
Mayor Atiqul Islam thanked the aware citizens for their support in achieving the target on Monday night.
He said it is necessary to continue such cooperation to keep the city clean.
He also urged those who could not sacrifice their animals to complete the slaughtering by Tuesday morning.
DNCC said in a notice that it took 2,201 trips to take away 10,374 tonnes of waste from all 54 wards under the city corporation from 2pm to 8pm.
The mayor visited Mirpur after inaugurating the waste removal work there in the afternoon.
He also inspected the work at Banani, Gulshan, Hatirjheel, Madhubagh, Moghbazar, Rampura, Malibagh, Khilgaon, Badda, Baridhara, Pragati Sarani and Uttara.
DNCC formed 10 teams to monitor the Eid cattle waste removal programme.
Based on last Eid's experience, the DNCC estimates that around 125,000 animals may be sacrificed in its area this time.
During the last Eid, the DNCC removed 19,644 tonnes of waste over three days. This year, the waste volume is expected to increase slightly.
The city corporation said it would deploy 520 specialised vehicles, including 115 dump trucks, 140 pick-ups, and 129 compactors to manage waste removal.
In the DNCC area, 9,337 workers would participate in the cleanup, including 2,394 city corporation cleaners, 2,323 private cleaners, 4,200 van service workers, and 420 other workers.
The DNCC also said it would provide residents with 940,000 polybags, 100,000 biodegradable polybags, and 67,000 kg of bleaching powder for disposing of sacrificial animal waste.
The city corporation said it would use 4,500 litres of disinfectant on the roads.
It has opened a control room with a helpline – 16106 – for citizens to seek help to remove waste.
The mayor asked the workers to collect and dispose of the waste to be produced from slaughtering on Tuesday.
