The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recovered several firearms after draining a pond near the Indian border in Cumilla’s Sadar Upazila, with the operation continuing at the site.

Acting on a tip-off, the RAB launched the drive in Katak Bazar village in the early hours of Tuesday, according to Maj Sadman Ibn Alam, the Cumilla company commander of the elite force.

At 10am, shallow engines were seen pumping water out of the pond adjacent to the Katak Bazar graveyard, situated just 350 metres from the border.

Maj Sadman confirmed that several pistols and guns, along with two sacks containing sharp weapons, have been found so far.

He added that white sacks and tape-wrapped weapons had been found and that authorities suspect more arms remain in the pond.
