Three people have been killed in Rangpur in violence on the first day of the student-led anti-government street protest

The dead have been identified as Haradhan Roy Hara, a councillor of Rangpur City Corporation, Jubo League activist Masum Mia, 31, and Khairul, 30, a resident of Gorapipara in the city who is identified by a single name.
From Sunday noon, protesters gathered at several key locations in the city, including Jahaj Company Mor and City Bazaar.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists from the ruling Awami League, Chhatra League, and other affiliated organisations also started assembling with processions.
Clashes erupted between the two groups, resulting in running battles that spread to surrounding areas between 12pm and 1pm.
During this period, two people, including the Jubo League activist, were killed.
Their bodies were later taken to the morgue of Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Sardar Mizanur Rahman Mizan, an official at the morgue, said: "Two bodies were brought in the noon."
The bdnews24.com who went to the hospital morgue found that neither body had any gunshot wounds.
Aminur Rahman, councillor of Ward No. 19, said: "The family of Ward No. 4 councillor Haradhan informed me of his death. However, I do not know the whereabouts of his body."
Efforts to obtain a statement from police were unsuccessful.
