State-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) is set to add two new bulk carriers to its fleet.
The Advisory Committee on Public Purchase has approved the proposal to buy the ships, which will be purchased with BSC’s own funds.
BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek said the addition will enhance the corporation’s capacity as well as revenue.
He disclosed the information at a press conference at the BSC office on Tuesday.
He said BSC floated an international tender in June, where eight firms bought the tender documents, but only three submitted bids.
After scrutiny, the proposal from US-based Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC received final approval.
On Aug 12, the Advisory Committee on Public Purchase approved the Tk 936 crore deal. The vessels will be supplied by China’s Neng Yang Shipyard.
