Nur doing well now, says DMCH director

"He is keeping well now. However, he has some complaints of pain due to some kind of trauma, some kind of fracture," says the DMCH director

The condition of Gono Odhikar Parishad leader Nurul Haque Nur, who was injured during a baton charge by joint forces, is largely stable despite some lingering pain, according to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman.

Providing an update on Nur's health on Sunday, he said: "He is keeping well now. However, he is experiencing a bit of pain due to some kind of trauma or fracture."

On Friday, Nur and Gono Odhikar activists were injured in a crackdown by joint forces after a clash with Jatiya Party supporters in Kakrail. Gono Odhikar alleged that their peaceful demonstration was attacked from behind by Jatiya Party supporters, prompting law enforcement to intervene forcibly. In contrast, Jatiya Party leaders claim Gono Odhikar activists assaulted their supporters while marching past their office.

That night, a bloodied and injured Nur was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital, and later at night, he was taken to DMCH Hospital.

"First, we took him to the One Stop Crisis Centre. After the initial assessment, we shifted him to the ICU and formed a medical board that night.," said Asaduzzaman.

He added that the six-strong medical team was overseeing his treatment. The team includes an ear, nose and throat specialist, ophthalmologist, neurosurgeon, and the anaesthesia specialist and head of ICU.

The DMCH director said, "The heads of all departments and I myself were present that night. He was assessed there and a decision was made about further treatment. He had a CT scan done at the hospital he had been to before, Islami Bank Hospital. The next morning, we did another CT scan.”

He also said that the necessary measures and medical tests for Nur will continue while he remains in the ICU.

According to him, Nur is currently in "stable" condition and consuming liquids.

Nur mainly had four medical issues, he said. "One is that his nose was broken, the maxilla, which is a bone in the face, has a crack. And a little injury to the eye, which we call a subconjunctival haemorrhage; there's a haemorrhage like that in the right eye."

"And what we're a little concerned about is that he had some intracranial haemorrhage. Not too much though. It was very small. We did a CT scan later and saw that it had resolved."

He added, "He (Nur) is fine now, but has some complaints of pain due to some kind of trauma, some kind of fracture. He is having some trouble sleeping, that's what he told me today."
