Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin appointed as Biman chairman

He has been appointed under the 1977 Biman Corporation Ordinance powers

Sheikh Bashir Uddin, advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been appointed as the chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ board of directors.

His appointment has sparked questions over a minister-ranked advisor leading an organisation under the same ministry.

The ministry's notification issued on Tuesday said Sheikh Bashir Uddin, advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been appointed the chairman of Biman Bangladesh’s board under powers granted by the 1977 Biman Corporation Ordinance and the company’s articles of association.

Following the change in power, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury was appointed as the chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Aug 19, 2024.
