Content creator Ashraful Alam, popularly known as Hero Alom, has been granted one month's interim bail in a case filed by his former wife accusing him of “attempted murder and assault”.

Alom appeared in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid on Wednesday, where his lawyer sought permanent bail for him.

However, the court granted him interim bail until Jan 21 instead. The judge also ordered the submission of a report on that day, according to Alom's lawyer Shanta Saksina,

According to the case documents, Alom divorced Riya Moni following a dispute and forced her out of their home. He later summoned her to a house in Hatirjheel on Jun 21 on the pretext of resolving the dispute.

The complaint alleges that when Ria arrived with her family members, Alom and 10–12 unidentified men hurled abuse at them. They then entered Riya’s Hatirjheel residence and beat her with wooden sticks. The accused also allegedly removed a 17.49g gold chain from her neck during the assault.

Riya filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on Jun 23. After that, Alom reportedly fell ill at a friend’s house in Bogura’s Dhunat after taking excessive sleeping pills.

He was first taken to the Dhunat Upazila Health Complex on Jun 27 and later transferred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. On the same day, Riya travelled from Dhaka to visit him at the hospital.

Alongside Alom, his “associate” Ahsan Habib Selim was also named as a suspect in the case. Both men had been out on bail.

The court, however, issued arrest warrants after they allegedly failed to appear for scheduled hearings, thereby violating the conditions of their bail.

Then on Nov 15, Alom was arrested from his office in the Ulan area of Hatirjheel.
