In a dramatic courtroom scene, the mother of slain "Alex Group" leader Emon, alias "Alex" Emon, pointed directly at a suspect in the dock, identifying him as the man who hacked her son to death.

"He hacked my son to death while wearing that very same white shirt," Ferdousi, the mother and plaintiff in the case identified by a single name, told Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam during a remand hearing on Thursday.

The court subsequently placed six suspects -- Sayeed Hossain Shimul, Tuhin Biswas, Rabbi Kazi, Suman, Rana, and Rasel -- the last three suspects identified by single names -- on a four-day remand each for interrogation.

The hearing took an unexpected turn when the defence counsel for three of the suspects -- Tuhin, Sayeed, and Rabbi -- argued that his clients were not present at the crime scene and that even the complainant had acknowledged this.

When summoned by the judge, Ferdousi clarified that those three specific individuals were not involved in the attack.

"They actually tried to save my son, but the others wouldn't let them get near him," she said.

She insisted that Rana, still wearing a white t-shirt, was the primary assailant.

After reviewing the video footage of the incident, which he described as "horrific", the judge noted the necessity of interrogating all suspects to uncover the full truth.

As the suspects were being led into the courtroom, Emon’s mother and his wife Jhuma, identified by a single name, attempted to physically assault them in a fit of grief and rage.

Police personnel had to intervene to restore order and move the relatives away.

According to case documents, the murder occurred on Apr 12.

Around 4:30pm, as Emon reached the slope of the Beribadh on Budhijeebi Road, a group of rival gang members launched a sudden, coordinated ambush.

Emon was hacked indiscriminately with sharp weapons and was left bleeding on the street.

He was later rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
