A court has ordered the seizure of a 10-storey building belonging to the wife of Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku, assistant private secretary to Sheikh Hasina.

Rahima Akter’s building, located in Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka, has been valued at Tk 94.85, according to court records.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Sunday following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the commission’s Assistant Director for Public Relations Md Tanzir Ahmed said.

On behalf of the ACC, investigating officer and Assistant Director Md Ruhul Haque sought the seizure of the building.

According to the application, on Jul 15 last year, the ACC had moved the court to freeze Rahima’s movable and immovable assets, with the court issuing an attachment and freezing order the following day.

During the investigation, it emerged that the building stands on one of the attached plots of land.

Intelligence sources also indicated that she was attempting to transfer ownership of the building. Citing the need for a fair investigation, the ACC said, the structure built on the seized land must also be attached.

Earlier, on Jul 17, the same court ordered the seizure of 57 bighas (approximately 14.42 hectares) of land in Gopalganj’s Kashiani and Kotalipara and in Keraniganj in Rahima’s name, along with the freezing of one vehicle and shares in four companies.
