Man shot dead near home in Khulna

Police recover two bullet casings from the scene

A man has been shot dead near his home in Khulna’s Rupsha Upazila.

The attack took place at around 11pm on Thursday, according to Rupsha Police Station chief Mahfuzur Rahman.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Imran Hossain Manik, son of Belayet Hossain from Bagmara.

Police say Manik was travelling by van towards Ilaipur when several assailants stopped the vehicle and shot him in the face at close range. He died at the scene.

Locals rushed out after hearing gunfire and found the body lying on the road. Officers later recovered two bullet casings from the scene and sent the body to Khulna Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Mahfuzur said Manik was a member of a local criminal group and was named in at least three cases filed at Rupsha Police Station.

“It is assumed that the murder was committed due to internal conflict,” he added.

Police said efforts are under way to trace and arrest those involved.
