Four members of a family have been shot and injured in their home in Khulna’s Batiaghata Upazila, with police suspecting the involvement of a victim’s former husband.
The attack took place early on Thursday, said Lobonchora Police chief Md Tuhinuzzaman.
The injured are Kazi Anisur Rahman, his wife Ranjuara Begum, their younger son Raisul Islam and his wife Fahima, who is identified with a single name.
All four were rescued by locals and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Ranjuara and Fahima were later shifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Police said a group of individuals entered the home and opened fire indiscriminately on the sleeping family members before fleeing the scene.
Six people including Fahima’s former husband, identified only as Imran, were involved in the shooting, according to police.
A manhunt for the shooters is under way.
Fahima, who was among the wounded, told reporters that the attack was orchestrated by Imran.
She said she divorced him seven to eight months ago before marrying Raisul.
Locals said Raisul had been sent to jail in a case three years ago, where he met Imran.
Over time, Raisul developed a relationship with Fahima while she was still married to Imran, which later led to their marriage.
Police and locals suspect the attack may have been carried out in retaliation.
