Two people have been killed and at least 12 others injured in a head-on collision between an Army truck and a bus in Mymensingh’s Phulpur upazila.
The accident occurred around 10:45am on Wednesday at the Balia intersection on the Sherpur–Mymensingh regional highway, according to Rashedul Hasan, chief of Phulpur Police Station.
The dead were identified as Sergeant Rezaul Karim, driver of the Army truck, and Abdul Baset, 50, the bus driver.
The injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police said the Army truck was returning to Mymensingh from Phulpur after completing duties at a local camp when it collided head-on with a Sherpur-bound bus. The front ends of both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash.
Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abdullah Al Mamun said the bus was travelling from Dhaka to Sherpur when it struck the truck coming from the opposite direction.
The two drivers died on the way to hospital, he added.
Law enforcement personnel were deployed at the scene.
The crash halted traffic on the Sherpur–Mymensingh highway for about an hour before returning to normal.
