High Court Division Justice Md Rezaul Hasan has resigned after a Supreme Judicial Council found initial evidence of corruption against him.
He tendered his resignation to the chief justice on Tuesday, and it was then sent to the president in accordance with protocol.
Md Shafiqul Islam, a spokesman for the Supreme Court, confirmed the development.
The Supreme Judicial Council launched investigations against several justices following the July Uprising. Rezaul was one of them.
He had been assigned to the Company Bench of the High Court Division for a long time. It was alleged in a complaint to the chief justice that, during his tenure, he took bribes from several aggrieved businessmen to change verdicts.
There were also allegations that he used his position to exert influence.
On Dec 2, 2023, Rezaul’s son ran over Monoranjan Hamza, the father of a traffic sergeant, with his car in Dhaka’s Banani U-Loop area.
The incident sparked widespread discussion, drawing criticism and condemnation on social media and mainstream media.
