ACC raids 35 BRTA offices simultaneously

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted raids in 35 offices of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) simultaneously to put an end to the bribery business and rings of middlemen.

The raid was aimed at stopping corruption in the process of issuing driving license and vehicle fitness certificate.

The ACC enforcement unit conducted the raids from morning to evening on Tuesday, according to its Deputy Director Aktarul Islam. He told bdnews24.com, “There have been complaints of bribery and middlemen interfering in getting fitness certificates and driving licenses for a long time. The simultaneous raids in 35 BRTA offices were conducted based on these complaints.”

ACC sources said the offices raided were situated in different districts of Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh divisions. They include Savar, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Cumilla Cox’s Bazar, Barguna, Nilphamari, Rangamati, Moulvibazar, Jashore, Thakurgaon, Joypurhat, Meherpur, Sherpur and Uttara.
