A young man has been arrested in Jashore on allegations of involvement in extremist activities.
According to Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Mirajul Islam, Tahsin Islam was arrested from his home in the Kismat Noapara area of Sadar Upazila around 9pm on Thursday.
Police said that during preliminary interrogation, Tahsin admitted to being an active member of an extremist organisation called Fatah Combat System (FCS).
The operation was carried out as part of an investigation into a case filed by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit in Dhaka.
Police also reported that during the arrest, they seized a machete, electrical wires, and several electronic devices from Tahsin's room.
ASP Mirajul said, "Tahsin Islam was arrested because a case had been filed against him by Dhaka's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit."
He further added, "He is also accused in an earlier robbery case, where he is listed as the third suspect."
According to the police officer, Tahsin admitted during preliminary questioning that he was associated with the FCS.
However, based on the information he provided, police have not found any evidence of active members or organisational activities of the group in Jashore.
Earlier, on Sunday, around 6:30am, police announced the arrest of six individuals in the "Mini Cox's Bazar" area of Dhaka’s Jatrabari on suspicion of extremist involvement.
Law enforcement authorities said those arrested were students and instructors of Fatah Combat System (FCS), a Khulna-based martial arts training institution.
ASP Mirajul alleged that under the guise of martial arts training, the Fatah Combat System had been encouraging young people toward extremism.
He said that after the Jatrabari incident, police began receiving various pieces of information about the network's activities.
He also said after completing the legal formalities, Tahsin Islam will be handed over to the CTTC unit for further investigation.
