Police detain man over tearing festoons at Narayanganj Baul protest

A man has torn down a festoon from the stage of a protest rally in Narayanganj demanding justice for attacks on Bauls.

The incident occurred around 3pm on Sunday at the Central Shaheed Minar in Chashara, shortly before the rally was scheduled to begin, said Nasir Ahmad, chief of Sadar Model Police.

The man, who was detained by police, could not be identified right away.

The rally, organised by Narayanganj district Baul artistes and devotees to protest the recent attacks on shrines and Bauls, began around 4:15pm at the Shaheed Minar.

Officer Nasir said they were prepared to deal with any untoward situation and had deployed additional forces amid concerns of unrest.

Members of RAB-11 were also seen stationed at the venue for security.
