The Fire Service says a fire at the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka’s Agargaon has been brought under control after 45 minutes of firefighting effort.

Rashed Bin Khaled, a spokesman for the Fire Service, said on Monday: “A fire started on the ground floor of the Liberation War Museum around 9am from an electrical glitch in the generator room. When the incident was reported, two Fire Service units went to the scene. After about 45 minutes of effort, the fire was brought under control around 9:46am.”

Liberation War Museum Trustee Mofidul Haque said, “The Fire Service came and brought the fire under control quickly. There wasn’t much damage. The museum is operating as normal.”

The fire was caused by a short circuit in the generator, which lit a spark, he said.

Kohinoor Akhtar, office secretary at the museum, said: “There was a fire in the generator room. The generator was slightly damaged. The fire did not spread elsewhere and the damage was not extensive.”
