A week of persistent rain has raised the water levels of Rangamati’s Kaptai Lake, boosting power generation at the Karnaphuli Hydropower Station.
The plant authorities confirmed that 206 megawatts (MW) of electricity were generated across its five units between Monday morning and afternoon.
According to the plant’s control room, the water level in the lake currently stands at 100.60 feet, compared with the normal baseline level of 95.92 feet.
The waterbody has a maximum holding capacity of 109 feet, even though levels between 105 and 107 feet are considered the danger mark.
Station Manager Mahmud Hasan said the rising water levels have allowed all five units to generate a combined 206 MW of electricity.
"The plant's power generation will increase further if the water levels continue to rise," he said.
