Eid-ul-Azha prayers have been held in Chattogram with calls for people to embrace the spirit of sacrifice and work towards building a discrimination-free society.
On Thursday at 7am, the city’s first and main Eid congregation took place at the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque premises.

The prayer was led by the mosque’s Khatib Hazratul Allama Syed Abu Taleb Md Alauddin Al Qaderi.
The second congregation was held at 8am, led by the mosque’s Pesh Imam Hafez Maulana Mohammad Ahmadul Haque.

Though rain pelted down on the port city over the preceding two days, the skies cleared up on Eid morning, allowing devotees to walk to the Eidgah under bright sunshine without running into any disruptions.
People from all walks of life travelled from different corners of the city to gather at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque grounds.
Among those present were BNP Chairman’s Advisor Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs and Land State Minister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, former city mayor and Jatiya Party leader Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Mayor Shahadat Hossain, MPs Saeed Al Noman and Abu Sufian, along with Jatiya Party leader Solaiman Alam Seth.
After the prayers, a special supplication was offered seeking peace, prosperity and wellbeing for the country, the Muslim Ummah and humanity.

Worshippers then embraced each other, exchanging Eid greetings in line with tradition.
State Minister for Land Helal Uddin said the essence of Eid-ul-Azha lies in sacrifice, self-purification and moral values, calling for the creation of a humane society by giving up greed and selfishness.
He said the spirit of Eid should not remain limited to ritual practices but must be reflected in personal, social and national life.
Chattogram Mayor Shahadat also urged implementation of Eid’s message of sacrifice to build an equal society.

He said Eid carries a message of unity and harmony beyond religion and called for mutual respect and shared celebration among all communities.
Shahadat added that the nation should move forward with the spirit of “Bangladesh first” to build a developed country.
After prayers, worshippers returned home to begin animal sacrifice preparations.
Chattogram City Corporation sanitation workers have already started removing sacrificial waste from different parts of the city.
