Students have blocked key roads in Dhaka, demanding the resignation of Education and Primary Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.

The protesters alleged that authorities proceeded with the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations despite severe weather conditions and accused the advisor of referring to examinees as "farm chickens”, a remark they described as insulting.

The demonstrations began around 11:45am on Tuesday, with students blocking roads at Science Lab and in front of the BNS Centre in Uttara.

New Market Police chief Mohammad Ayub told bdnews24.com, "Students started a protest march and blocked the road at Science Lab a short while ago. We are trying to hold discussions with them."

Uttara West Police Station Duty Officer Shahin Alam said the protest in front of the BNS Centre began around 11:45am and had caused traffic congestion stretching as far as Abdullahpur.

Around 11:40am, students from Dhaka College and several other institutions blocked the Dhanmondi-to-New Market bound road at the Science Lab intersection.

Traffic on the road came to a standstill, triggering severe congestion across the surrounding areas. Many commuters were seen walking to their destinations.

Security was tightened across the area in response to the demonstrations.

Additional police were deployed, while members of law enforcement remained on alert at nearby intersections to prevent any untoward incidents.

During the protest, students chanted slogans including, "One demand, one goal—Milon must resign”, "Those responsible must answer for the suffering”, and "No examinations amid floods and waterlogging”.

They also carried placards demanding the postponement of the HSC examinations and the education minister's resignation.

The protesters said Monday's HSC examinations had been held without taking into account widespread flooding and adverse weather conditions.

They alleged that candidates in Dhaka and other parts of the country endured severe hardship in reaching their examination centres due to waterlogging, heavy traffic congestion and transport disruptions.

Many students, they said, had left home well in advance but still struggled to arrive on time.

Mohsin Sheikh, a student of Dhaka College who joined the protest, said: "The examinations were held without ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.

“Many students in flood-affected areas could not reach their centres under normal circumstances. That is why we are protesting this decision."

Another student from Dhaka City College, who requested anonymity, said: "The education authorities cannot evade responsibility for yesterday's suffering. We want the hardships faced by students to be taken seriously and those responsible to be held accountable."
