Maj Gen Kabir Ahmed, former military secretary to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take up an ambassadorial role.

A similar order has been issued for Maj Gen Sheikh Md Sarwar Hossain, who had been serving as chairman of the Bangladesh Tea Board.

According to a government order issued on Monday, the senior officers have been transferred on deputation, but no specific ambassadorial postings have yet been assigned.

The order noted that until they are given missions to head as ambassadors, they will remain at the ministry.

Maj Gen Kabir once served as a director at the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). In March 2022, he was appointed as military secretary to Hasina.

He was promoted to major general in July of that year.

A graduate of the 24th Long Course of the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), Kabir has also commanded the 11th Infantry Brigade at the Sylhet Cantonment. From 2019 to 2021, he served as director of the Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau (CTIB).

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Sarwar was commissioned through the 25th Long Course at BMA.

He too once served as a director of DGFI, as well as general officer commanding (GOC) of the 10th Infantry Division and area commander.

After the fall of the Awami League government in August last year, he was appointed chairman of the Tea Board in October 2024.

In a separate order, Maj Gen Mohammad Moazzem Hossain has been appointed executive chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), which operates under the Chief Adviser’s Office.
