A Bangladeshi worker has been killed and another remains missing after an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon, with the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut confirming the recovery of one dismembered body and saying the second victim may still be trapped under rubble.

The information was shared on Wednesday night in a statement issued by Mohammad Anwar Hossain, first secretary (labour) at the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon.

The statement said Lebanese Army personnel and the Lebanese Red Cross recovered a dismembered body from the strike site on Wednesday.

The body was identified as that of Shuvo Kumar Das by another Bangladeshi worker present in the area. The remains have been kept at a Nabatieh hospital.

Shuvo was from Murarikathi Union in Satkhira’s Kolaroa Upazila. The missing worker Karim Mia was from Dulalpur Union in Narsingdi’s Shibpur Upazila.

The two were caught in an Israeli drone strike on Monday night at their residence at Nabatieh’s Maifadoun in southern Lebanon.

On Karim, the embassy said he is believed to be buried under the rubble of the same strike site.

“Due to security risks, the Lebanese Army and Red Cross could not carry out further recovery operations. Efforts are ongoing in coordination with local authorities,” the statement added.

Earlier, three other Bangladeshi nationals were killed in separate Israeli strikes, prompting a strong protest from the Bangladesh government.
