At least 15 people have been killed in Israeli attacks across Lebanon, including children, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health and the National News Agency.

On Wednesday, three Israeli drone strikes hit cars on a highway in the Jiyeh area, about 20km south of Beirut, killing at least eight people, including two children, the authorities said.

Al Jazeera reports that the conflict is “only escalating”, adding that civilians are bearing the heaviest toll as violence spreads across populated areas.

The Qatari broadcaster said the strikes are intensifying amid rising cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, while diplomatic efforts continue in Washington.

On Tuesday, 13 people were killed in separate attacks in southern towns, including members of Lebanon’s Civil Defence.

At least 512 people have been killed during the current truce period, taking the total death toll since Mar 2 to 2,896, as per the Lebanon ministry.
