Tangail shutdown call withdrawn

Kader Siddique is the younger brother of expelled Awami League leader and former minister Abdul Latif Siddique.

The seat felt vacant after Latif Siddique resigned from Parliament.

In protest against the cancellation of Kader’s nominations, his party KSJL has called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown for Wednesday in Tangail.

Agitated leaders and activists of the party also blocked the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway for two hours on Tuesday in protest against the decision.

Assistant Returning Officer for the by-election Md Tajul Islam said the nominations were cancelled after scrutiny on Tuesday.

Two others whose nominations were thrown out are Jatiya Party’s Sayed Mustaque Hossain Ratan and Independent candidate Abdul Alim.

After the scrutiny, nominations of Awami League candidate Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hajari, two other candidates of KSJL  Iqbal Hossain Siddique and Hasmat Ali, NPP’s Imrul Kayes, Jatiya Party’s Sadek Khan and BNF’s Ataur Rahman Khan were found valid.

Last date for the withdrawal of nominations is Oct 21. Campaign will start after allocation of symbols to the candidates on Oct 22.
