Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief Md Shafiqur Rahman’s nomination papers for Dhaka-15 constituency have been declared valid by election officials.

BNP’s Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton has also been cleared, while CPB’s Sajedul Huq Rubel’s nomination has been rejected.

The decisions were announced Saturday by Returning Officer Md Yunus Ali during the scrutiny of nomination papers in Dhaka-15.

Out of nine candidates in the constituency, five have been cleared, three rejected, and one nomination kept pending.

“As all documents were in order and no complaints were found, the nomination papers of Jamaat’s Md Shafiqur Rahman, BNP’s Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, Md Ashfaqur Rahman of Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD), Janatar Dal’s Khan Shoeb Aman Ullah, and Gono Forum’s AKM Shafiqul Islam have been declared valid,” said Yunus.

He added that CPB’s candidate, Bangladesh Supreme Party’s Mobarak Hossain, and independent candidate Tanzil Islam had their nominations scrapped due to improper party nomination papers.

The decision on Jatiya Party’s Shamsul Haque has been kept pending over case-related documents.

According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, appeals against returning officers’ decisions can be filed between Jan 5 and Jan 9. Appeals will be resolved from Jan 10 to Jan 18.

The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is Jan 20. The final list of candidates and allocation of election symbols will be published on Jan 21. Campaigning will begin on Jan 22 and continue until 7:30am on Feb 10. Voting will be held on Feb 12.
