A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, who was critically injured in a clash with BNP activists in Chuadanga’s Jibannagar Upazila, has died at a private hospital in Dhaka.
Mofizur Rahman, 40, passed away on Tuesday afternoon after battling for his life for ten days, confirmed Jibannagar Police chief Solaiman Sheikh.
Mofizur was the chief of the Baka Union unit of Jamaat.
His elder brother, Hafizur Rahman, 50, had previously died from injuries sustained in the same incident.
According to the police officer, a violent confrontation broke out between BNP and Jamaat supporters on the night of Feb 28.
Hafizur died in the early hours of Mar 1 while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
Mofizur had been under intensive care at a private facility in the capital. He succumbed to his injuries around 1pm today.
Following the death of Hafizur, their eldest brother filed a murder case at Jibannagar Police Station. Police have so far arrested three individuals in connection with the violence.
The arrested individuals include Mehedi Hasan, the recently removed convenor of Baka Union Jatiotabadi Swecchasebak Dal, his father and BNP activist Jasim Uddin, and Md Abdus Salam, the general secretary of Hasadah Union BNP.
