BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus reassured them that the parliamentary polls will go ahead as scheduled in February.
After a meeting with Yunus on Sunday, Fakhrul said the chief advisor had called them to provide reassurance that there should be no doubt or delay over the polls.
Fakhrul described the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad chief Nurul Haque Nur in a clash with the Jatiya Party as “deeply concerning”. He added that the government-formed judicial inquiry committee must conduct a proper investigation.

Fakhrul expressed the BNP’s concern that a force might be attempting to postpone the election, despite Yunus’s assurances.
The BNP delegation met Yunus in the evening.
Earlier, Yunus held separate meetings with the Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party to discuss the parliamentary polls and key issues in an effort to ease mounting political discord.
