The Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a two-day human-chain demonstration to press its five-point demands, including the legal recognition of the July Charter, also known as National Charter.

The party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced the programme in a statement on Sunday.

According to the schedule, human chains will be formed in all divisional cities, including Dhaka, on Oct 14, followed by similar demonstrations in district Sadar on Oct 15.

Golam Porwar said that as part of efforts to realise the five-point demands, a nationwide mass mobilisation was held from Oct 1 to Oct 9, followed by processions in all divisional cities, including Dhaka, on Oct 10.

Memorandums were also submitted to district administrators on Oct 12.

He added, “The widespread participation in these programmes proves the public’s full support for these demands.

“The government must respect the people’s will, accept our five-point demands without delay, and ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. The people will not leave the streets until their demands are met.”
