He said Siddiq’s victory made the BNP “sad”.
“Our pride, Tulip Siddiq, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu [Sheikh Mujibur Rahman], has become a member of the British Parliament.
“It made BNP sad as they conspired in various ways to prevent her victory but failed,” Hoque said at a programme in Dhaka on Saturday.
Labour candidate Siddiq, hailed as a rising star in UK politics, won the Hampstead and Kilburn constituency to become only one of the three British-Bangladeshis ever to become MP in the United Kingdom.
In their reaction to Siddiq’s victory in the May 7 election, her mother Sheikh Rehana and brother Radwan Mujib Siddiq also alleged ‘conspiracy’ to thwart her victory.
“...Many tried nasty things against her but nothing worked,” Rehana said.
Tulip's brother alleged those who helped her were threatened.
