The Awami League's general secretary and LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam made this comment after placing wreath at the Dhanmondi memorial of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning.
“We are a political party, that is why any discussions can take place with the opposition anywhere,” Ashraf said.
BNP has been campaigning for a restoration of the caretaker provision to conduct parliament elections for the past three years.
Business leaders had demanded a ban on strikes.
The United States and the European Union had also urged for dialogue between the two parties.
Both parties had agreed to sit in talks, but it did not materialise.
“Now Jamaat is dictating the BNP… This is not good for our politics,” he said pointing to recent Jamaat atrocities.
Ashraf criticised BNP for calling shutdown on Mar 7, the date when Bangabandhu made a historic speech in 1971.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreath at Bangabandhu’s Dhanmondi 32 memorial at 7:00am. She again joined party-men to place wreath.
