The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has accused the Election Commission (EC) of negligence after the nomination papers of 17 of its candidates were rejected.

The party said despite timely submission, the document was not uploaded to the EC website promptly.

“The Election Commission’s errors have led to the rejection of 17 of our nominations, while 30 out of 65 have been approved,” said Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan, president of the CPB.

He said all required documents were submitted on Nov 26, but the EC failed to upload them. The commission later collected signatures from CPB leaders for their candidates’ nominations on Dec 28.

Chandan said CPB leaders met the EC on Saturday and informed them that the missing uploads were not the party’s responsibility.

According to him, the commission assured the party that the matter would be resolved by Sunday.

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said the issue should have been settled earlier.

“Let’s see, the matter is still under appeal,” he said.
