Praying for Khaleda is a ‘religious duty’, says Jamaat leader Porwar

He highlights the party’s long-standing support for democracy alongside the BNP chairperson

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar believes it is a “moral and religious duty” to pray for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

He visited Evercare Hospital in Dhaka's Bashundhara on Sunday and enquired about her physical condition.

After leaving, he told journalists they had visited the three-time former prime minister in the hospital on behalf of the party chief.

Porwar highlighted the political and activist ties with Khaleda, saying Jamaat has long joined street movements for democracy alongside her.

He said he had come to convey his best wishes and prayers for Khaleda, adding: “It is our moral, religious, and political responsibility, as those involved in politics, to sincerely pray for [Khaleda’s] recovery.”

Meanwhile, a Jamaat media statement said Porwar was briefed on the BNP chairperson’s latest condition by her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, and offered prayers for her complete recovery.
