Nahid Islam, convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), is set to travel to Malaysia on a three-day visit -- his first overseas trip since the party’s formation in February.
The NCP announced the visit in a media statement on Thursday, saying Nahid is travelling at the invitation of the NCP Diaspora Alliance, Malaysia chapter.
He will stay in the country until Aug 24, the statement said.
According to the press note, during the visit, he is scheduled to meet members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community, representatives from social and political organisations, journalists, rights activists, and professionals.
He will also attend evening dinners arranged with several groups, it added.
The itinerary includes a courtesy meeting with officials from the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
As part of the programme, Nahid will speak at a public event, where he will interact with expatriate political figures, students, participants of the July Uprising, and others from the diaspora.
The party statement said he will discuss how expatriates can be more actively involved in post-uprising state-building in Bangladesh and exchange views on their experiences during the Uprising.
Nahid is expected to return home on Aug 25.
