A Dhaka court has granted bail to former social welfare minister Rashed Khan Menon, former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, and former Supreme Court justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik in a defamation case involving derogatory remarks about late president Ziaur Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raunak Jahan Taki passed the order on Tuesday in the presence of the three high-profile suspects.
During the session, the court formally recorded the arrest of Inu in connection with the case.
Menon and Justice Manik had previously been shown arrested in the same case on Jan 21.
Prosecution Police Deputy Commissioner Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan confirmed that the court granted bails for all three of the suspects.
The defamation suit was filed on Aug 22, 2024, by lawyer Ziaul Haque.
The court took the charges into cognisance and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct a probe.
Manik is accused of defaming Zia during a 2021 seminar and a 2022 television talk show, while Inu and Menon face charges for offensive remarks made at separate events on July 19, 2013.
