BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has arrived in Thakurgaon to lead an election rally, marking his first visit to the district since 2003.
He took the stage at the Government Boys' High School grounds at 11:45am on Saturday.
Thousands of activists greeted their leader with thunderous applause as he entered the venue, with Tarique waving back to the crowd in acknowledgement.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Media Cell, noted that it was in this very district on Jan 4, 2003, that Tarique initiated the grassroots union representative conferences.
That inaugural session was opened by the then health minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
Shairul remarked that Tarique's return has sparked a deep emotional response among party faithful, turning the election assembly into a sea of people.
“This district is also home to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who is respected nationwide as a person of integrity. Residents here feel a distinct pride in his presence,” he said.
The event began at 11am with recitations from the Quran, Gita, and Bible.
Faisal, who is also the younger brother of Mirza Fakhrul, said the chairman's arrival has generated enthusiasm among people from all walks of life, evidenced by the massive turnout at the rally.
Activists had arrived from early morning in small processions, many holding placards featuring candidates from Thakurgaon and Panchagarh, including Fakhrul for Thakurgaon-1, Abdus Salam for Thakurgaon-2, Zahidur Rahman Zahid for Thakurgaon-3, Naushad Jamir for Panchagarh-1, Forhad Hossain Azad for Panchagarh-2, and Monjurul Islam for Panchagarh-3.
Tarique reached Syedpur via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka before travelling to Thakurgaon by helicopter.
He is scheduled to address more rallies at the Nilphamari Boro Math at 1:30pm and the Birampur Government College grounds in Dinajpur at 2:30pm later today.
Earlier, Tarique completed the first phase of his northern tour between Jan 29 and 31, addressing rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangpur, Sirajganj and Tangail.
On Jan 22, he launched his campaign from Sylhet’s Alia Madrasa ground, followed by rallies in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Narayanganj.
Subsequent programmes included Chattogram’s Polo Ground on Jan 25, followed by rallies in Feni, Cumilla, Narayanganj, and later Mymensingh, Gazipur and Uttara in Dhaka on Jan 27.
To date, the BNP chairman has conducted 24 election rallies across the country, alongside two specific events in the Korail and Banani areas of his own constituency, Dhaka-17.
