A youth has been killed and 10 others injured in post‑election violence in the Munshiganj‑3 constituency.
The clash broke out on Friday afternoon in Char Abdullah village between supporters of rival candidates, said Sadar Police chief Mominul Islam.
“The incident stemmed from previous disputes and election rivalry. A drive is under way to arrest those involved,” he added.
Three of the injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where one later died.
The dead has been identified as Jasim Uddin.
His family supported independent candidate Md Mohiuddin, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) rebel contesting with the Football symbol.
BNP’s Social Welfare Secretary Md Kamruzzaman Ratan won the seat.
Jasim’s father Mafik Nayeb and elder brother Mosiur Nayeb are also receiving treatment at DMCH, while others are being treated in different hospitals.
Speaking to bdnews24.com, Mosiur said: “We supported the Football candidate. That’s our only fault. We never harmed anyone or had any enmity.
“In the afternoon, 50-60 people led by Nasir Doctor and his son Shakil Dewan attacked our house. My brother was beaten to death,” said Mosiur.
Shakil, senior joint convenor of Sadar Upazila Jatiotabadi Swecchasebak Dal, denied the allegations.
He claimed Jasim’s men had attacked his supporters earlier in the day.
“Later, locals retaliated against Jasim’s group. I was not present at the scene,” he said.
