Daily misery on Pragati Sarani

Heavy traffic congestion frequently plagues Pragati Sarani from Rampura to Badda in Dhaka. Buses often stop to pick up passengers and engage in reckless competition. The growing number of battery-powered rickshaws worsens road conditions. Except on holidays, commuters and pedestrians are almost constantly subjected to severe inconvenience.

One of the main reasons for heavy traffic congestion on the roads leading to Merul Badda, Modhyo Badda, and North Badda via Rampura Bridge in Dhaka is disorderly traffic management. Buses frequently stop at random points on the road for a long time to pick up passengers, while also blocking other buses to try to attract more commuters. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
