Netrokona is witnessing a sharp rise in patients showing measles symptoms.
In just one day, 23 patients sought treatment at the district hospital and Upazila complexes.
Civil Surgeon Golam Mawla said the total number of patients with measles symptoms and confirmed cases in the district has reached 67 over the past 11 days.
“By Thursday, 43 test samples were received from Dhaka, of which 10 were confirmed as measles cases,” he said on Saturday.
“Among those affected, 70 percent are under nine months old, while 15–20 percent are under two years.”
According to the district health department, 13 patients are admitted to hospital isolation wards.
Others are receiving treatment at home or have recovered and returned home.
Critical cases are referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Afrin Sultana stressed public awareness as key to controlling the outbreak: “If children develop fever or rashes, they must be taken to hospital immediately or consult a doctor. All health staff, including assistants, are working to control measles.”
She added that a special vaccination campaign will begin in the district from Sunday and confirmed that there is no shortage of measles vaccines.
