Tangail General Hospital opens dedicated ward as child deaths from measles symptoms rise

A 13-month-old child has died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Tangail General Hospital, marking the second such fatality in 48 hours.

The child, identified only as Safa, passed away early Friday morning, confirmed Khandaker Sadiqur Rahman, the superintendent of the hospital.

Her death follows the passing of 8-month-old Yamin, also identified with a single name, who died with similar symptoms on Thursday.

The hospital has seen a steady influx of young patients showing signs of the viral infection. In the last 24 hours alone, eight more children were admitted with measles symptoms.

Currently, 23 children are receiving treatment for the illness at the facility.

In response to the rising number of cases, the hospital authorities have opened a dedicated ward to isolate and treat children arriving with these symptoms.

"Another child died this morning. We have lost two children in two days during treatment," said Sadiqur.
