Advisory: with photo Comilla, May 22 (BDNEWS) – According to an estimate there are 851 'dighi' in the small town of Comilla. Many small dighis had already been filled up for various purposes as the population in the town is increasing day by day. Among the dighis in the town most notable are Ranir Dighi, Nanua Dighi, Ujir Dighi and Amir Dighi. But the biggest dighi in the town is Dharmasagar, which is situated in the centre of the town. The Dharmasagar dighi is almost 543 years old. The Maharaja of Tripura Dharma Manikya ordered to dig this dighi to provide adequate supply of water to the poor people. The dighi was named 'Dharmasagar' after his name. Raja Manikya ruled the region for long 32 years (from 1431 to 1462 AD). Famous poet Kazi Nazrul Islam created many songs and verses sitting on the bank of Dharmasagar. The ancestral home of renowned singer of the Subcontinent Shachin Dev Barman lies near the dighi. Above all Dharmasagar is undoubtedly a lucrative place for both the tourists and inhabitants of the town to get rid of their weariness. BDNEWS/1734 hrs
