Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has called for economic policies that align with the transformed public mindset following the July Uprising.

On Wednesday, he stressed the need to build an economy that allows participation from all segments of society.

“The country’s economy must have a level playing field, and every citizen must be given the opportunity to participate so that the benefits of economic growth reach them,” Khosru said.

Referring to the political turning point, he said: “There has been a profound change in the public mindset since Aug 5. We must adopt economic activities that are aligned with this change.

“As a first step, we need to improve state institutions where conditions have deteriorated. Our key priority is to recover these institutions. We must bring professionalism, transparency and efficiency into them.”

He spoke at a reception held at the ministry’s conference room to welcome the newly appointed ministers and state ministers, the finance ministry said after the event.

Khosru reiterated that Bangladesh must move toward an economy that includes all its people.

“If people from all levels and professions can be brought into economic activities, it will be possible to bring meaningful change to the country’s overall economy,” he said.
