The School of Business at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has hosted a peer review team from the South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS) from Aug 11-13 as part of its quality assurance and accreditation process.

The three-day visit assessed the school's academic and administrative practices, institutional systems, stakeholder engagement, campus facilities and commitment to continuous improvement against SAQS standards, the university said in a statement.

The four-member team was led by Prof Abdur Rab, vice-chancellor of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT).

The other members were Prof Somayajuly Garimella, distinguished professor (adjunct) at Jaipuria Institute of Management, Noida, and former director of the Institute of Management at NIRMA University, Ahmedabad; Prof Jit Tshering of the Centre for Leadership Development at the Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu; and Khondkar Morshed Millat, sustainable finance and sustainability specialist and faculty member at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) and former director of Bangladesh Bank's Sustainable Finance Department.

During the visit, the team met ULAB and School of Business leaders, faculty members, students, alumni, administrative and support staff, and corporate and other external stakeholders.

It reviewed documents, policies and procedures, academic activities, research and consultancy initiatives, international collaborations, student support services and corporate engagement practices.

The team also visited campus facilities to assess the physical and learning environment and resources supporting teaching, learning, student development and other academic activities.

The review enabled the team to assess the school's educational environment, achievements, strengths and areas for further improvement, while ULAB School of Business demonstrated its focus on academic quality, stakeholder engagement, internationalisation, sustainability and continuous institutional development.

The school has not yet received SAQS accreditation.

SAQS is a quality assurance and accreditation system for business schools in South Asia. Its accreditation helps demonstrate a school’s academic quality, credibility and international standing.

The SAQS accreditation awarding committee will make the final decision based on the peer review team's report.

ULAB said the visit marked a significant milestone in the school's quality assurance process and that the discussions, stakeholder interactions, facility observations and feedback were expected to support its pursuit of academic excellence and strengthen its regional and international standing.
