East West University has organised a day-long “Job Fair”, connecting graduating students with national and multinational employers across different sectors.

The event was inaugurated by Md Fouzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources at the EWU campus in Dhaka’s Aftabnagar, the university said in a media statement on Saturday.

The statement read that in his address, Fouzul urged young people to enter politics, saying Bangladesh needs ethical leadership.

“There is a need for honest people in the politics of Bangladesh. I urge honest individuals to build their careers in politics,” he said.

He also advised students to focus on innovation and entrepreneurship rather than relying solely on degrees, noting that global demand now prioritises skills: “What I can do is more important than the degree I have achieved.”

The advisor called on young people to generate wealth through production and innovation rather than lobbying or pursuing undue advantage, the statement noted.

The press note also cited Nihad Kabir, former president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI), as describing the fair as a “great opportunity” for students to explore career paths and for employers to identify suitable graduates.

It also included remarks from Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson of the EWU Board of Trustees and former Bangladesh Bank governor, who underscored the role of entrepreneurship in national development.

He said the government should support small and medium enterprises to reduce poverty.

Farashuddin suggested creating three million small entrepreneurs equipped with training and low-interest or Islamic Mudāraba loans, the statement read.

Prof Dr Shams Rahman, vice-chancellor of EWU, said the “Job Fair” is organised to establish a vital link between industry and academia.

He noted that at the job fair, students are not only applying to their preferred organisations, but organisations are also able to find their preferred graduates.

As per the statement, a total of 70 companies, including banks, NGOs, telecom operators, RMG, beverage, electronics, software companies, financial institutions, non-profit organisations, pharmaceuticals, and HR professional training institutions, participated in the event, providing a wide array of career opportunities for EWU students and alumni.
