The five-day ‘MIT Leading Edge International Student Conference’ has wrapped up at the Haileybury Bhaluka school.
Jointly organised by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Haileybury Bhaluka, the event gave students hands-on knowledge about various innovative activities and their management, including underwater robotics and innovative engineering designs for sustainable climate change, the educational institutions said in a press release.
Under the supervision of MIT faculty and graduates, students were able to expand their engineering and innovation to ‘advanced levels’, the press release said.
More than 100 students were awarded honourary certificates from MIT’s Edgerton Center on the final day of the conference on Saturday.
Haileybury Bhaluka’s founding headmaster Simon O’Grady, Haileybury Bhaluka Advisor and former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz, Academic Director Dr Sandeep Ananthanarayanan, MIT faculty members and graduates, and the parents and guardians of the students were in attendance.
"Bringing the MIT Leading Edge International Student Conference to Bangladesh represents a significant milestone for our country,” O’Grady said. “It not only highlights our commitment to fostering global partnerships in education and innovation but also showcases the immense talent and potential of our youth on the international stage."
The press release called the conference a success that underscores Bangladesh’s emergence as a ‘hub for academic excellence and innovation’.
“By providing a platform for students to exchange ideas, explore interdisciplinary collaborations, and address pressing global issues, the event has contributed to nurturing the next generation of leaders and change-makers.”
Sponsors for the event included Southeast Bank and United Commercial Bank, PFEC Global, Berger Paints, Confidence Trade, and Educan.
Haileybury Bhaluka is a part of Best Holdings Group, which also operates the Marriott and Le Meridien suite of hotels in Bangladesh.
Last year, the Haileybury Bhaluka organised an information session with the Harvard Summer School.
