The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the consumer level by Tk 53 for January, increasing the cost of a 12kg cylinder to Tk 1,306.
The new price, up from Tk 1,253, will take effect from 6pm on Sunday, BERC said in a notification.
BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed said the commission has fixed the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder at Tk 1,306 for January based on the latest pricing formula.
At the same time, the price of autogas has also been adjusted.
Under the new decision, autogas will cost Tk 59.80 per litre, up by Tk 2.48 from the previous Tk 57.32.
According to the notification, the price adjustment has been made in line with the Saudi Contract Price (CP) of propane and butane for January, as announced by Saudi Aramco.
The CP of propane for January has been set at US $520 per metric tonne, while butane has been fixed at US $525 per metric tonne.
Based on the prescribed ratio of propane and butane, the average Saudi CP stands at US $521.75.
As per the commission’s determination, the retail price of bottled LPG has been set at Tk 108.83 per kg.
Based on this rate, the maximum retail prices of LPG cylinders of different sizes have been fixed.
Earlier in December, BERC raised the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by Tk 38 to Tk 1,253.
At the same time, the price of autogas was increased by Tk 1.74 to Tk 57 per litre.
