Bangladesh has seen a drop in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), mostly used for cooking and powering vehicles, by Tk 1.40 per kilogram for May due to a price drop in the international market.
Consumers will now save Tk 49 on a 12-kg LPG cylinder, commonly used in households.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new LPG rate for May on Thursday, saying it will take effect from 6 pm.
The new rate stands at Tk 116.08, down from Tk 120.18. The price for a 12 kg cylinder dropped to Tk 1,393 in May from Tk 1,442 in April.
Saudi company Aramco fixed the average prices for propane and butane, the raw materials for LPG, at $583.25 per tonne, down from $618.25 per tonne, the BERC said in a statement. Prices for the raw materials were reduced $35 per tonne in the international market.
The BERC said that autogas, which is used for fuelling vehicles, also saw a dip in price. The price of autogas now stands at Tk 63.92 per litre with value added tax (VAT) at the consumer level. The figure was Tk 66.21 last month. Liquid gas that is sold in a reticulated process will cost Tk 112.25 per kg, down from Tk 116.36.
