Dhaka, Nov 26 (bdnews24.com)—Awami League renegade Amanur Rahman Khan Rana took oath as the MP of Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency on Monday.
Speaker Abdul Hamid administered the oath at his office. Tangail-8 MP Shawkat Momen Shahjahan was also present there.
Though he fought the polls by defying party decision, Rana told reporters after taking the oath that he was elected by votes of the Awami League supporters.
Rana bagged almost twice the number of ballots Awami League candidate Shahidul Islam Lebu fared.
Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim had told an election campaign rally that Tangail Awami League's Religious Affairs Secretary Rana was being expelled.
Rana, however, said it was not a big deal.
"It's right that I didn't compete with the party symbol. But Awami League hasn't expelled me. I would have received a document if had been expelled," he said.
"I believe I am in Awami League," he added.
He had met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the President of the ruling party, at Parliament on Tuesday night.
Asked about the meeting, he told reporters: "Exactly the same happened here as what happens when a son meets his mother. She rebuked me and she blessed me ."
